Red Deer Gala
I just returned from the “It Isn’t Easy Being Green” Gala in Red Deer.
The Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School Students’ Council organized the Gala. It was an amazing evening and I was truly inspired by the young people who had put together a fundraiser, in their words, “helping in the fight against global warming.” The students had organized not only an impressive line up of speakers, but also a silent auction and dinner. The evening included music by the LTCHS jazz ensemble and was put together with a mind to green ideas like recyclable packaging for silent auction gifts.
To me a hero is an ordinary person who steps up to do what is right.
The Students’ Council at Lindsay Thurber are all hero’s to me. People who put there time and effort into something they care about simply because it is the right thing to do. I am inspired that this can happen in Alberta and I believe that there will be many more good things to come in Red Deer.
We know that we have all the tools and technology necessary to take action on Climate Change. What we are missing is the political will.
Tonight I saw young people stepping up to provide some of that political will. Thank you I am encouraged and filled with hope.
