Election?

It looks like the pundits are saying there will be a Federal election right away. I myself am not so sure. They always seem to call these things when they are the least convenient so possibly it will happen on May 9th like they are predicting.

The Green Party in Alberta will benefit either way. We will benefit if an election is called. It will free up resources to move on with campaigning in the provincial next spring. We will benefit if the election is not called. It will give us more time to continue to build our political machinery.

In any case we have a more active wide spread Green movement than we have ever had in Alberta. Everyday we get bigger and better organized. I would like to thank the people who have worked so hard to make this a reality. The strength of the Green Party is people.

Thanks for moving us ahead. Keep up the good work.

Campaign Trail

I was on the campaign trail the last few days with Jim Harris, Leader of the Green Party of Canada so it has been pretty hectic. We were in Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton and we had a lot of fun. We talked to a lot of people about the Green Party.

Jim told me that 30% of the Green parties vote in the B.C. election came from people who would not have voted for anyone else. Another 30% came from parties on the right and 40% came from parties on the left. This to me is great news. It means that we are pulling votes from across the spectrum but not only that we are bringing people back into the democratic process. If all I do in this election is give people something to vote for, something to believe in, then I will feel good about what I have done.

I believe we are doing more than that though. I believe we are articulating a plan for a just transition to a sustainable society. I am in Drumheller tomorrow at the civic building downtown at 7:00 PM. If you are in Drumheller and can make it come out.
