New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is always a time to reflect on the events of the past year. 2007 was a whale of a year for the Alberta Greens. I ran in a by-election in Calgary Elbow and had a third place finish. We are the third party in Calgary. Jennifer Wigmore ran in the Drumheller-Stettler by-election. This was the first time we ran in Drumheller-Stettler so Jennifer was a historic ground breaking candidate for us.

We changed Election Readiness Coordinators. Edwin Erickson our candidate in Drayton-Valley Calmar stepped down to focus on his local campaign. Before Edwin stepped back, he crossed the province and turned up some high quality candidates like Glen Argan in Edmonton Millcreek and Joe Anglin in Lacombe Ponoka.

Joe Anglin worked tirelessly to make the public aware of the government spying on the public. He also worked to bring Bill 46 in to the public eye and make people aware that our democracy is in danger. The Alberta Greens supported this initiative 100%, putting money into advertisements to raise awareness on the Bill 46 issue and working cooperatively with other opposition parties.

Midge Lambert was elected as our Election Readiness coordinator at our AGM in October. Midge has already set up a new toll free line for the Alberta Greens: 1-888-476-8683. She has traveled the province from Peace River to Medicine Hat to look for candidates.

Anticipating an election call early in 2008, the Alberta Greens are ramping up our preparations. We look forward to another record-breaking year.
