Report from the BC election

The BC campaign is underway we are quickly nominating candidates out here and with that we are swinging into election high gear. The campaign looks like it will have to be a grassroots campaign as the press is starting to sell a story that involves a two party race. Luckily for the Green Party we are a grassroots organization and we can campaign effectively outside the regular media channels. Building the grassroots will become the theme for the BC election and possibly even the mission here for the next four years.

It is an exciting time to be Green.

Vision, Hope, Compassion, Honesty

These are the four words that I have been saying to candidates since I began finding people to run. This is how the Green Party campaigns. We present a vision for the future. It is a vision of hope. We are compassionate in our campaigning. We are concerned for people. Above all we are honest. These are values but they are not part of the ten key values of the Global Greens they are instead the way we campaign.

That is what I am doing today in BC; I am campaigning to bring hope for the election. It is beginning. They are starting to believe.

Community

I just finished reading Joe Trippi’s book The Revolution will not be Televised and he is talking about the importance of Blog’s in developing community. Joe Trippi was the campaign manager for Howard Dean and arguably the first manager of an internet political campaign. One of the things that he feels is critical to a successful Blog is a comments section so that the person who is writing can get feedback immediately.

This will be my first post with a comments field mainly because I just discovered how to turn it on. If it does not work I will try again on the next post.
